Internship Stories: 7 months at the NFL

While swiping through LinkedIn back in June, I found a post that NFL UK had their applications for their 2022 Internship open, which would run from August 2022 to February 2023. Being a massive NFL fan, I couldn’t turn down this chance, resulting in writing my application overnight as I only got to see the post a couple of days before the deadline.

After going through the three different stages of the application process, I received an email saying that I was one of successful five interns that they would be taking on this year.

My first month at the NFL was so welcoming, but hectic, as the company was on the countdown to the three London games that were happening in October, and the first-ever NFL game in Germany, which was happening in November. Coming from a retail job, which was the only thing I knew as I had been there since I was 16, it took me a little bit of time to learn this type of work and the environment for me to be able to thrive, with a hybrid work culture being in place at the NFL.

Some of my main roles during my internship were:

· Producing and coordinating weekly email newsletters to nearly a million people on NFL UK’s database.

· Scheduling TikTok posts and participating in weekly brainstorms, while contributing innovative ideas for posts while helping the NFL UK channel grow to 120,000+ followers currently.

· Proofreading creative content and verifying brand compliance across multiple communication channels.

Some other projects that I had the pleasure of working on during my time at the NFL, were at both games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium; I was able to provide a memorable moment to fans for their Game Day pre-game sideline experience. I have been able to work with Sky VIP to coordinate and produce a Super Bowl LVII competition package which would be sent out to their over 3 million VIP customers, marketing tune-in messages for the Super Bowl on Sky.

I also had the amazing chance to work with NFL UK Foundation and Flag teams at a couple of events last year:

· The NFL Foundation Stadium Takeover with Nike & Spurs which was an event that allowed children to have the chance to experience football and NFL activities, offering them an opportunity to learn more about NFL.

· The Denver Broncos Community Event, which allowed children to be able to have the chance to view the Denver Broncos practicing before their London game, while being able to experience different NFL drills and getting to meet some of the Denver Broncos players.

My most favourite memory from working at NFL UK was being able to work and try out operations at the Denver Broncos vs Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium on 30th October 2022. On this day, I had an amazing experience working behind the scenes at Wembley, ensuring players' and coaches' movements ran effectively. Also getting to work at Wembley exactly 5 years to the day that I went to see an NFL game there with my dad was something I will never forget.
