Reduce, Reuse & Recycle - Small steps to help out!

The climate crisis is an ever-growing issue and you may think “me making some small changes won’t do anything” but in fact, if each person were to reduce their carbon footprint by even a little, it would make a massive difference.

Let’s be honest... We don’t need plastic! The only reason we use it is because it's conveniently in every shop you walk into. Did you know that according to refill.org.uk the average UK household uses 480 plastic bottles a year, but only recycles 270 of them ? Nationally, out of the 35 million plastic bottles being used every day, nearly 16 million plastic bottles aren’t being recycled.

One way to help reduce plastic waste is by getting yourself a tote reusable veg bag for your shopping as well as a reusable bottle and coffee mug (we sell two reusable bottles and a great keep-cup btw). All you have to do is remember to put the bottle in your bag or on the counter! The best part is that most coffee shops now give discounts on drinks if you bring your own cup so not only are your helping the planet but also your bank account!

And if you do find yourself still using plastic bottles and bags, why not try to reuse them a couple of times or until they break (or smell a bit weird? We don't recommend that) so that you are at least reducing the amount of plastic you’re using.

I love a good thrift so another great way of reducing and reusing your waste is by buying second hand! Buying second-hand clothes reduces clothes waste and is also cheaper in the long run as fast-fashion products usually break easily. Buying secondhand or preloved clothes is expected to overtake fast fashion in the next coming years, and it makes sense with all the great places like Depop, eBay, Doppler and charity shops. So next time, instead of buying a jack or pair of jeans from Primark that'll break after a couple wears, buy second hand instead!

Fun fact: If you are a coffee drinker your grounds have more than 16 uses such as fertilizer or an exfoliant for your skin! Check out the link here to read more: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/uses-for-coffee-grounds#TOC_TITLE_HDR_9
